Teach-Out Plan

Required by NC State Board of Proprietary Schools. This plan outlines the procedures TASA will follow to ensure current students can complete their program in the event the school ceases operations.

2. Plan Activation Trigger

This Teach-Out Plan will be activated if any of the following events occur:

  1. The school voluntarily surrenders its proprietary school license.
  2. The NC State Board of Proprietary Schools revokes or does not renew the school's license.
  3. The school ceases operations for any reason, including financial insolvency, loss of facility, or death/incapacity of the school owner.
  4. The school announces a planned closure date.

3. Student Notification

Upon activation of this plan, TASA will:

  1. Notify all enrolled students in writing (email and physical mail) within five (5) business days of the decision to close.
  2. Provide each student with a complete copy of their academic records, attendance records, and payment records.
  3. Notify the NC State Board of Proprietary Schools within five (5) business days.
  4. Post a notice at the school facility visible to all visitors.
  5. Update the school website with closure information.

4. Student Completion Options

Option A: Completion at TASA

If the school has sufficient lead time before closure (minimum 30 days), TASA will offer enrolled students the opportunity to complete their program on an accelerated schedule. The accelerated schedule may include extended daily hours and weekend sessions to allow students to finish the curriculum before the closure date.

Option B: Transfer to Receiving Institution

TASA will arrange a teach-out agreement with one or more comparable proprietary schools or community college programs that offer appliance repair training. TASA will assist with:

Option C: Full Refund

If neither Option A nor Option B is feasible, students will receive a full refund of all tuition, fees, and other program charges paid, including the $200 application fee, when the school closes before the first day of class. After class begins, refunds will be calculated under the published TASA refund policy and applicable North Carolina law using the student's last date of attendance. The payment schedule is a $200 application fee, $2,000 (50% tuition) at Enrollment Agreement signing, and $2,000 (remaining 50% tuition) 14 calendar days before class.

All refunds will be processed within 30 days of the date the school confirms the applicable closure or withdrawal.

5. Records Preservation

TASA will preserve all student records (academic transcripts, attendance records, payment records, enrollment agreements) for a minimum of five (5) years following the school's closure. Records will be stored securely and made available to former students upon request. A designated custodian of records will be identified and their contact information provided to both students and the NC State Board of Proprietary Schools.

6. Student Protection Fund

In the event that refunds from the school are insufficient to cover all student claims, the NC Student Protection Fund may provide additional compensation. Students should contact the NC State Board of Proprietary Schools at (919) 807-7100 for information about the Student Protection Fund.
